Kensington Furniture Initiates A Sleep Council

Kensington Furniture of Northfield, NJ, has partnered with a local pediatrician, neurologist, pulmonologist, chiropractor, sleep specialist, and other medical experts to create a Sleep Council. Kensington Furniture contains the largest selection of family room reclining furniture, bedrooms, and dining rooms. The Sleep Council is focused on educating people about the importance of their pillows and how a poor pillow can contribute to insomnia or sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea occurs in approximately 25 percent of men and about 10 percent of women. Nearly 30 percent of these people experience sleep apnea due to their pillow or bedding. Sleep apnea causes fragmentation of a person’s sleep, which causes those affected by it to be tired or have loud snoring. Sleep apnea is generally treated with a machine called a CPAP, or continuous positive airway pressure.

The Sleep Council has used their expertise to construct a questionnaire that will help customers know which type of bed they need to get a good night’s sleep. In addition to the questionnaire, the Sleep Council has created a Pillow Bar, which will feature various head, neck, back, stomach, and side pillows. After answering the questionnaire, customers will be able to understand what pillows and bedding will yield the greatest amount of rest when they sleep.

Kensington Furniture is committed to continued research with the Sleep Council and to helping people get the best bedding their bodies need for a good night’s sleep. They are changing the way bedding is sold – it’s not about the price point or “how it feels” – but about what will yield a sufficient amount of rest for each individual person.

Kensington Furniture offers a great selection of bedroom furniture and health-conscious mattresses at affordable prices. They have started a blog titled Sleep Matters to offer further education on the importance of getting a good night's sleep.

Showroom Expansion at Ridge Home Furnishings

Ridge Home Furnishings expands showroom to better suit the needs of their customers, whether looking for the latest styles or forever pieces.

Ridge Home Furnishings is proud to announce their newly-expanded showroom. Many years ago the trend of buying furniture was more of a long-term investment than it tends to be today. Customers were mostly in search of high-end furniture that would last a family for years. Rewind to days long gone of rooms full of furniture covered with plastic. Furniture was a major family purchase and was meant to stay for a significant length of time.

Now it seems customers are seeking more mid-line quality furniture that can be easily replaced in a few years as the trends and styles of furniture continuously change. Lately, it seems people are leaning towards buying more budget-friendly pieces as opposed to the very high end product so that they can give their homes an instant makeover when they tire of the old.

The selection at Ridge Home Furnishings includes a variety of price points to suit any budget. If the customers’ needs can’t be met in the main showroom, they can venture up to the new loft and browse the selection of higher-end products that can be customized to taste in many styles and colors. The new larger showroom at Ridge Home Furnishings has expanded to now also carry children’s and teen furniture, in addition to the vast array of bedroom sets already available for purchase.

Whether searching for a top-of-the-line set or a more budget-friendly one to suit the kids heading off to college, Ridge Home furnishings has the largest variety of selections to choose from in Western NY. In search of a new dining room set? Customers can head on up to the newly-remodeled second floor portion of the expansion to browse hundreds of dining room sets. From large dining room tables, to Bistro styles with bar stools, if a customer can’t find a set to fit their tastes, there are plenty of catalogs to special order the perfect one for their home.

Maine Heritage Timber, New England’s leading source for river-reclaimed timber was named a “2013 TOH Top 100 award winner” by This Old House. The third annual The TOH Top 100 features the 100 best new home products of the year. Maine Heritage Timber’s river-reclaimed wainscoting and trim was one of twelve listed in the 'Finishing Touches' category to receive the honor.

The editors spent months testing to find the most distinct, helpful, and coolest home products in seven categories: Kitchen, Bath, Tools, Building Products, Outdoor Living, Home Tech, and Finishing Touches. Each winning product is also labeled with icons such as Money-Saver, Easy Upgrade, Perfect Solution, Eco-Friendly, Splurge or Made in the USA. Each section includes picks for the most useful apps in each category.

“We are honored to be named to This Old House’s list of best new home products for 2013,” said Tom Shafer, co-founder and owner of Maine Heritage Timber. “As a smaller business that’s fairly new to the industry, we’re thrilled to see our unique products receive this type of recognition.”
“The 2013 TOH Top 100 is full of products that showcase ingenuity, demonstrate originality, wow us with their functionality, and of course, mark breakthroughs in their categories,” says This Old House Editor Scott Omelianuk.

Resource Furniture Transforms Modular “Pedia-Pod” Hospital Room at GreenBuild Expo 2013

Resource Furniture announce the sponsorship of Building Design+Construction's "Pedia-Pod" a prototype pediatric treatment module to be featured in the Green Zone at GreenBuild 2013.

The innovative, pre-fab module is a "kid-friendly" 14-foot by 42-foot unit that showcases a number of design principles, practices and products that could make it worthy of a LEED Gold application, including a hyper-functional 180-square foot “Family Zone” which functions as a waiting area, play space, and work area while also providing much-needed sleeping facilities for families of the young patients.

The main system in the Family Zone is the Circe – a freestanding, multi-functional, seven-foot sofa during the day, that seamlessly transforms into a comfortable queen wall bed at night. The Circe is designed and made in Italy by Clei. The Family Zone also features dual-height, flip-down tables; one height for young children and one height for adults. A hanging closet, storage, comfortable seating, a media storage unit and a work station complete the space.

By collaborating with Resource Furniture, named “the biggest retailer in the multi-functional space in the U.S.” by The Wall Street Journal, the Pedia-Pod is able to provide the functionality of a space much larger than its actual footprint.

“Multifunctional furniture solutions, like the systems we are installing in the Pedia-Pod can have a measurable impact on sustainability–residential or commercial.” said Ron Barth, co-founder of Resource Furniture. “Any time that you can force one square foot to perform the function of two – or three, you create real value: monetary value, in terms of construction and maintenance cost savings, as well as environmental value in terms of ongoing energy savings”.

GreenBuild 2013 will mark the first trade show opportunity for Resource Furniture to showcase an installation of transforming furniture in a healthcare environment.

Clei bed systems feature water-based lacquers, FSC-CoC certified and CARB (2) compliant materials, and biodegradeable, solvent-free mattresses, important features in sensitive healthcare environments. Resource Furniture also provides a lifetime warranty on all mechanisms.

The module also boasts a specialized bathroom, treatment/recovery area, medical staff workstation, and features high-performance windows, energy-efficient lighting and controls, and water-saving plumbing fixtures. Pedia-Pod is designed and constructed by NRB, Ephrata, Pa, and will be on display at NRB's offices after the show.

Greenbuild 2013 International Conference & Expo will take place November 20-22 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. Contact Laura Anderson or Lisa Blecker at 212-753-2039 for information or to schedule an appointment.
