Homelement.com Showcases the Versatile Hillsdale Metro Bedroom Collection

Homelement.com will showcase the versatile Hillsdale Metro Bedroom Collection. This collection features three different beds in two different finishes each. The unique feature of this collection is that no matter which bed you choose, they all share the same case goods. This makes it great for furnishing both a bedroom and a guest room or for mixing and matching items.

The Hillsdale Metro bedroom collection comes in two different finishes, a dark espresso and a cherry. The case goods include a nightstand, dresser, mirror, chest and media chest. The media chest is nice because it offers storage space for clothes while also giving you a space to put your television and media player in as well. The rest of the case goods feature strong lines and aged pewter finished pulls. They are crafted from solid hardwood and also feature dovetail drawer construction and full-extension ball-bearing drawer glides for years of trouble free use.

"This Hillsdale Metro bedroom collection proves to be a very popular collection since customers are not limited to just one or two bed styles for a particular collection. In the past, we have had many queries from customers that like a certain styling but for example require a storage bed instead of a regular bed. The fact that this collections comes in two very popular finishes is also a plus."

The Hillsdale Metro Martin bed is a storage bed that features two dark brown vinyl cushions in a tufted style on the back of the headboard. The two large castered drawers create a lot of extra storage space, great for hold off season clothes, linens, bedding and more. The Hillsdale Metro Liza bed is a platform bed, which means no box spring is required. It features strong lines and a bold vertical slat design on the headboard giving it a unique and stylish feel. The Hillsdale Metro Riva bed is also a storage bed. It features an elegantly arched headboard with open panels and also features useful storage drawers underneath it. All of the Metro beds are made of solid hard woods and are available in cherry or dark espresso.

Mayor Sofa New Edition Showcased

MAYOR SOFA is introduced with a black stained base frame, in addition to the oak and smoked oak editions. The MAYOR SOFA was designed in 1939 but it is safe to say that after its reissue by &tradition in 2012, the sofa is experiencing a spirited revival. Last year the sofa received the award for Best Reissue in the prestigious Wallpaper* Design Award and in Denmark it was awarded Classic of the Year by the Bo Bedre Awards.

Now MAYOR SOFA is introduced with a black stained base frame, in addition to the oak and smoked oak editions. MAYOR features a unique style that draws as much upon the Danish tradition of fine woods and functional solutions as on the international modernism for which Arne Jacobsen is famous. The new black stained frame adds a more edgy and graphic expression to the sofa, yet still revealing the solid wood and its regional tradition.

Woodcraft Project Raises Over $6,000 for Fresh Wood

Woodcraft and its customers donated more than $6,000 in 2013 to support Fresh Wood, a student competition founded to encourage and support young woodworking designers and builders like Mollie Ferguson, a beginning furnituremaker who won two top Fresh Wood awards in July 2013.

In April 2012 Woodcraft invited customers to join the company in supporting Fresh Wood by making donations that Woodcraft would match up to $10,000, and in January 2013, Woodcraft gave Fresh Wood a check for $4,260.
“Woodcraft is pleased to be able to give Fresh Wood a larger check this year – $6,186 from 2013 donations,” Woodcraft President Jody Garrett said. “Woodcraft will continue the Fresh Wood project in 2014 in an effort to keep woodworking as a viable career choice for future generations.”

Founded by The Association of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers (AWFS) in 1999 when the industry faced shortages of skilled workers, Fresh Wood promotes woodworking and design education programs, as well as students pursuing careers in these fields. Held in conjunction with the AWFS Fair every two years, the Fresh Wood competition offers a place for students to showcase their work, be introduced to the industry as artists, designers and woodworkers, and be exposed to industry career opportunities. In addition, winners take home monetary and tool awards.

“We awarded over $19,000 in prize money for Fresh Wood 2013, and thanks to Woodcraft contributions, we were able to increase all prize check amounts by over 25% per prize level. A portion of the funds was also used to offset the costs of travel and hotel allowances for the Fresh Wood finalists and their instructors attending the AWFS Fair,” Adria Torrez, AWFS assistant director of education, said.

Ferguson, who lives in Oakland, California, won the Best of Show and first place in the post-secondary chair category for her 2013 chair entry, “dulcius ex asperis.” Her awards included a wood sculpture, $2,224, a 14" Rikon bandsaw, and a certificate of merit. She entered the competition as a College of the Redwoods graduate, having completed two years of study in 2012.

Ferguson said she became interested in furnituremaking while earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. When her career path veered away from furniture design, Ferguson decided to more seriously pursue furnituremaking. Realizing that she would need more woodworking instruction, she enrolled at the College of the Redwoods.

Chuck's Furniture and America's Mattress Lowers Its Prices

Chuck's Furniture and America's Mattress of Clarksburg and Morgantown have lowered the prices on all Icomforts. This means huge savings for customers. This isn't just a weekend sale either. These prices will be good through March.

As Serta prepares to revamp their lineup, the current models are still the same quality beds that they've always been. Serta wants to move product to help pave the way for these new models.

The Icomforts represent a great alternative to the expensive memory foam mattresses that have been offered for years. They were the first models to utilize a new process in mixing memory foam with gel to reduce the temperature that many people disliked about traditional memory foam. For customers, this means you can get a high end bed for half the price of a comparable model from the competition.

Customers don've have to sacrifice quality either. Not only does Serta have a longer warranty than Tempurpedic, they also offer an in home trial that lasts one month longer. That's how confident Serta are that people will love a new Icomfort.

For people with back problems, memory foam can help tremendously. It tends to be more supportive than traditional innerspring beds. The foam fills in the "problem" areas like knees and lower back.

For couples that have different sleep schedules, nothing reduces motion transfer like memory foam. People don't have to worry about partners disturbing them in the middle of the night.
